Card Controls – Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are Card Controls?

Card Controls give you the power to manage how, when, and where your AltaOne debit or credit card is used- right inside Digital Banking. Activate a new card, set spending limits, choose transaction types to allow or block, and even turn your card on or off instantly.

2. Where do I find Card Controls?

Log in to Digital Banking or the mobile app and select Card Manager from the main menu. From there, click on Card Control. You’ll see all of the active debit and credit cards attached to your account and can start managing them right away.

3. What can I do with Card Controls?

  • Activate or deactivate your card instantly if it’s misplaced.

  • Report a lost or stolen card and request a replacement.

  • Set monthly or per-transaction spending limits.

  • Restrict certain types of purchases (like online or international transactions).

  • Block specific merchant types, such as bars, liquor stores, or other age-restricted businesses.

  • Set up alerts so you know right away when your card is used.

4. How do alerts work?

Receive real-time notifications based on your preferences — for example:

  • When a purchase exceeds a certain amount

  • When your card is used online or internationally

  • When purchases occur at specific merchant types

Alerts help you stay on top of your spending and can alert you to suspicious activity.

5. Do my settings take effect right away?

Yes! Any changes you make- from spending limits to blocking merchant types, happen instantly…but please submit travel notices 24 hours in advance of your travel.

6. Can I control more than one card?

Yes. If you have multiple AltaOne debit or credit cards, you can manage each card separately. Cards assigned to co-borrowers and/or authorized users can also be controlled within Card Controls. This is particularly helpful when teaching teens about smart money management as you can limit the amount they can spend (by transaction or for the month), and you can restrict the types of merchants and transactions they can perform (i.e. age restricted transactions)

7. What happens if I turn my card off?

When your card is turned off, all new transactions will be declined. However, transactions that have previously been authorized or are recurring charges, will post.  Once you turn the card back on in Digital Banking, your alerts will continue as selected.

8. Is there a cost to use Card Controls?

No. Card Controls are a free feature included with your AltaOne debit and credit cards. However, if you elect to receive alerts via SMS text, please check with your carrier regarding fees.

9. Who can use Card Controls?

All AltaOne members with an active debit or credit card and access to Digital Banking can use Card Controls.

10. Why should I use Card Controls?

Card Controls help you:

  • Stay on top of your spending

  • Customize how your card works for your lifestyle

  • Help manage how your authorized users can use their card

  • Protect your account from unauthorized use

It’s an easy way to add an extra layer of control and peace of mind to your everyday banking.
